Dictionary of Philosophical Terms and Names
This site is the effort of an undergraduate philosophy
instructor. All entries were written by the author and include
additional recommended reading. The links to Amazon.com are a trifle
annoying, but the entries are concise and well written. You can
browse by term, by an individual philosopher, by the History of
Western Philosophy, or by the timeline of Western philosophers. Last
updated in 2001.

on the Internet
A comprehensive list of Web sites related to different aspects
of philosophy and to many generally high-level, authoritative
resources about this time-honored discipline. Use the
"Table of Contents," each section of which is a link, for an
overview of the broad scope of this site and use its
"Search" utility to look for links to Web sites that provide

Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
Philosophy professors at Stanford University are developing this
encyclopedia, featuring hundreds of articles. The section called
"What's New" features the latest entries. Searchable and browsable.
Wikipedia : Philosophy
Wikipedia is a 'Web-based, free-content encyclopedia written
collaboratively by volunteers. The status of Wikipedia as a
reference work has been controversial, and it is both praised for
its free distribution, free editing and wide range of topics and
criticized for alleged systemic biases, deficiencies in some topics,
and lack of accountability and authority when compared with
traditional encyclopedias.' Nevertheless, the 187+ philosophy
articles make fascinating reading and offer a unique flavor not
found in standard sources.

An organized collection of thousands of links to resources
devoted to philosophy. The navigation includes links to
resources on philosophers, topics in philosophy, images, print and
electronic journals, and e-texts. The topics pages have links
to terms in various online general and specialized encyclopedias.
Many points of access, including searching by time period and "Most
Recently Included" entries.
Annotated directory of thousands of philosophy resources
covering the following areas: ancient, medieval, modern, 19th
century, 20th century, major issues, feminism, ecofeminism, ecology,
queer theory, and American. There is also a directory of
useful resources and tools for budding philosophers. This site
is searchable and has indexes by subject, major philosophical topic,
and by name of philosopher.
