CulturedMed http://culturedmed.sunyit.edu/
The SUNY Institute of
Technology library is the home for CulturedMed, "a Resource
Center of print materials, electronic databases, and this Web site
dealing with culturally-competent healthcare for refugees and
immigrants." The site contains bibliographies, refugee/immigrant
statistics, libraries with ethnic collections, resettlement
agencies, foreign language health materials, and links to other
culture and health Web sites.
Culturediversity.org http://www.culturediversity.org
A personal Web site from two registered nurses who work in the
field. In addition to their volunteer field work in the remote
villages of Latin America and Caribbean countries, they also provide
assistance and home health care to Hispanic and Haitian migrant
workers at home. The Web site features a good bibliography (click on
"References" on the left-hand menu) with links to reviews on
Amazon.com for books on this topic. Several of the titles can be
found in our library.
DiversityRx!

The purpose of diversity Rx is to improve language and cultural
competence for health care professionals. This will improve
the quality of health care for minority, immigrant, and ethically
diverse communities. The site includes a database of cultural
competency models for health care professionals, and other
documentation to support cultural competence in health care.
This site includes standards for all health care professionals,
including nursing, and is sponsored by several health organizations.
EthnoMed http://ethnomed.org/
The EthnoMed site, from the University of Washington's
Harborview Medical Center,
contains extensive, searchable information about cultural beliefs
and medical issues pertinent to the healthcare of
immigrants to the U.S., many of whom have fled war-torn
homelands. Cultures covered include Cambodian, Vietnamese, Tigrean, Somali, Oromo,
Amharic, Chinese, Eritrean, Ethiopian, Hispanic and others.
Explanations of diseases and diagnostic tests are provided in
multiple languages.
Transcultural
Nursing Society http://www.tcns.org/
This is the Web site of the Transcultural
Nursing Society. It provides information on the society and relevant
conferences, and is a gateway to the society's official journal, The
Journal of Transcultural Nursing (JTCN). This peer-reviewed
publication provides a forum for nurses, health care professionals
and persons from other disciplines to discuss issues related to the
advancement of knowledge in the area of culturally congruent health
care delivery. JTCN provides the mechanism for a dialogue by
encouraging contributions from international researchers,
practitioners, and theoreticians about the relationship between
culture and health care.
