Under "The Company" are biographies of Alvin Ailey, Judith Jamison, and
principal dancers of this famed multiracial dance company.
Select "Dancers" from the home page and click on any of
the pictures of featured principal dancers for a brief
biography. A valuable feature of this site is ABT's "Library"
which is listed under "Education and Training" - a text and
video dictionary of ballet terms will be especially useful!

A biography of George Balanchine on The George Balanchine
Foundation Website also offers a selected bibliography, a
videography, and list of ballets in active repertory.

A biographical essay for the PBS series "Great
Performances" describes the life of Dunham, who combined her
love of dance with her passion for cultural anthropology.
Fosse, Bob -- Great Performances - PBS
This 2002 PBS production of "Dance in America : From Broadway :
Fosse" includes an essay on Fosse’s impact on American musical
theater, a multimedia presentation of "That’s Dancin' : Fosse on
Broadway," and a list of related web sites.
Graham, Martha -- Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance
An authoritative biography of the world's leading exponent of
modern dance. Follow the "Links to More Information About
Martha Graham" for other biographical sources.
Horton, Lester -- Biographical Sketch - Lester Horton
biography from the Library of Congress of one of the founders of
American modern dance who was also known for his dance training

Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company
Click on "Bill" and "Arnie" to read about the lives and
dance careers of the co-founders of this multicultural dance
company. Summaries and pictures of current and past repertories
can be viewed by selecting "Choreography."
"Heritage" in the left-hand side of the home page and then on
"Founders." You will find links to Jose Limon's biography as
well as a biography of Doris Humphrey, his teacher and mentor.
Morris, Mark -- Online NewsHour : The Mark Morris Dance Group
PBS’ "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" (2001) presents a
special on choreographer Mark Morris that includes an overview
of modern dance, a biography and interviews.
Robbins, Jerome - Jerome Robbins Foundation
This Website has several biographies of Jerome Robbins.
In left column, click on Robbins Rights Trust. Ballet
notes and ballet chronology are available.

legend, Taylor has been called "the reigning master of modern
dance" (Time) and "the world's greatest living choreographer" (Newsweek).

Great Performances : Dance in America - Free to Dance
2001 PBS aired "Free to Dance," the first
major film tracing the impact of African Americans on American
modern dance, "chronicling the crucial role that African
American dancers and choreographers have played in the
development of modern dance as an American art form." Click on
"Biographies" for information on more than 40 dance pioneers and
stars, and "Beyond the Dance" for essays on African American
dance evolution. "Resources" is an extensive list of Web sites
of modern dance companies, dancers, choreographers and dance

This association promotes "excellence in dance films and
video and public awareness through festivals, screenings,
publications, grants, and workshops." Select "Articles"

Magazine - Reviews

performances by the dance company of your choice.
Research in Dance
was founded in 1965 by a group of dance scholars
encourage scholars in dance to research, publish, and discuss
material relating to all areas of dance. Included in this Web site
a list of international dance conferences as well as links to
other dance service organizations.

dance updates, and to research current and upcoming performances in

Register for free-to-read current articles on dance including

Southern California Dance Directory
Very comprehensive site for dance in Southern California,
compiled by University of Southern California dance faculty member. Includes directory
of area dance companies.
This directory serves the United States dance community by listing dance
performances (including dance events, competitions and

other types of dance with review added, to find reviews in

Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis, Martha Graham, Katherine Dunham,
George Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, Eiko and Koma, Sardono Kusumo, and
Garth Fagan. Includes examples of contemporary choreography from the
USA and Japan, as well as archival film footage.
Flamenco : a film
Call number: DVD 0029
A series of flamenco dances, "an integral part of the Spanish heart
and culture" are performed by three hundred dancers and photographed
by the master cinematographer, Vittorio Storaro.
