How to find journal, magazine, and newspaper articles

Journal and magazines usually provide the most current information on a topic. The Library has several magazines that focus on art:

To find articles on your topic, use one of the online databases listed below.  In most cases these databases will provide full-text articles on almost every topic. Conduct your search in these databases by using the following subject headings and keywords:

ARTstor

What is ARTstore?

  • Non-profit database of more than 550,000 and growing contributed images

  • Contributors include: museums, educational institutions, art institutions, and individuals.

The ARTstore Offers:

  • One-stop source of high resolution images: art, architecture, photographic images

  • Copyright permission to scholars, students, instructors for educational use

  • Software Offline Image Viewer or OIV) to create presentations (online or offline)

  • Image file management of ARTstor images, your own images on ARTstor

  • Password-protection for shared files (with instructor privileges)

  • On campus workshops or consultation for faculty and students from Librarians

  • Students can create presentations/portfolios using the ARTstor software

Registered users have the ability to:

  • Create and save groups of images
  • Add personal notes to images
  • Access password-protected folders created by instructors at RHC
  • Use stable URL links of images and image groups
  • Use ARTstor's Offline Image Viewer presentation software
  • Create and give presentations with OIV without having to access ArtStor online


How to find images using
ARTstor  

  • Must register ON CAMPUS to be able to use ARTstore remotely or contact Adele x3417 or 4101

  • Must re-register ON CAMPUS  every 120 days to keep your remote access

  • ARTstore may time out during peak periods if you have a slow DSL connection

  • Not recommended for dial-up Internet users

  • Must remove any pop-up blockers while using ARTstore

Demonstration

To register, click on "GO" button

If you already registered, please enter login and password

Perform Basic search. Example: Frida Kahlo

 

Click on GO
           
Once you displayed images in ARTStore, you can select images for your presentation by  clicking once on the image. The image will highlight yellow.   

Go to Organize--Save selected images to -- New group.

    

Select My Work Folder and give a name to your Group.

You can be more specific in Advanced search. For example you can indicate whether you want to search:
- in any field
- in Title only
- in Creator only


 

Images can be displayed either as large or small thumbnails

To share image URL:
 

To view images as power Point Presentation, you have to download Offline Viewer.
Click on Tools -- Download Offline Presentation Tool (OIV)

Once you have an Offline Viewer (OIV) installed, open the OIV, select Create a new presentation from ARTStore images.

Go to Insert -- Image Groups from ARTStore

It will ask for your authentication information
(your email and password that you registered with)

Double click on My Work Folder

Select the group that you want to view as presentation and click on Download

Click on View -- Image Palette Presentation
