Faculty Request for Library
Instruction
Library instruction sessions consist of orientations, tours or
class visits that will help your students become information
literate. An information literate*(or information competent)
student can recognize when information is needed and can define
the need for information. He or she is able to locate, evaluate,
use, and cite the needed information effectively.
Instruction by a librarian takes place in one of the library’s
multimedia classrooms during your class time and usually
incorporates a hands-on activity. You can also schedule
instruction in your classroom, but with limited or no hands-on
activities depending on your classroom equipment.
Here is a menu of orientation offerings to help you
decide what kind of library instruction your class may need and
what options you can request for your library instruction.
Please note that the library does offer other types of
instruction for students outside of class time: drop-in
workshops, individual or group research consultation, and
librarian-supervised research labs.
The library invites you to arrange for a library orientation,
tour or class visit as early as possible.
Please request instruction at least a week in advance of your
preferred date. Requests are filled on a first-come,
first-served basis.
Click on the button below for the instruction request form.
After you have submitted your request, a librarian will contact
you to confirm your instruction session and get more information
as needed.
